The Valuation Tribunal -becoming a Tribunal Member

The Valuation Tribunal is a judicially independent organisation that deals with appeals against Non-Domestic Rates, Council Tax and Drainage Rates. The work includes dealing with appeals against the value of small industrial units or a parade of shops, the banding of a small bungalow or a person’s eligibility for personal discounts and appeals concerning Council Tax Reduction

Why Become a Member?

Becoming a member is a great way to volunteer your spare time and give back to your community. It’s a fantastic opportunity to gain knowledge and skills and provide a service as part of a national team. This is a voluntary role, however travel expenses and subsistence will be covered.

What?

A member is volunteer that sits on the tribunal panel and is responsible for hearing and determining appeals made by people and businesses who pay council tax or non-domestic rates. 

Who?

Anybody can apply to become a member of the Tribunal. You do not need any specific experience or qualifications; full formal training will be provided to successful applicants.
